PRESS RELEASE: UNICAL Senate Enforces One-Session Suspension on 19 Students Over Exam Misconduct
The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has handed down a one-academic-session suspension to 19 students implicated in examination malpractice, sending a clear message regarding the institution’s zero-tolerance policy toward academic dishonesty.
The enforcement follows an extensive review by the Students’ Disciplinary Committee, whose recommendations were fully endorsed and ratified by the University Senate. Consequently, the affected individuals are rusticated for the 2025/2026 academic session and will not be eligible to return to their respective programmes until the 2026/2027 session.
The disciplinary action impacts students across multiple disciplines, spanning the Arts, Education, Social and Biological Sciences, Marketing, Peace and Conflict Studies, Estate Management, Science Laboratory Technology, Environmental Sciences, Pharmacy, Allied Medical Sciences, Nursing Science, and Administration.
Reiterating the institution’s core values, the university administration has instructed all faculty deans and departmental heads to strictly monitor and enforce the ban. UNICAL continues to prioritize a fair, rigorous, and transparent academic environment for all students.
