The Management of Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi (JOSTUM), through the Office of the Registrar, wishes to inform all students, parents/guardians, staff, and the entire university community that the previously announced resumption date for the new academic session has been officially postponed until further notice.
This decision, contained in an internal memorandum dated Thursday, April 2, 2026, was taken after thorough consultations and careful consideration by the University Senate and Management. The primary goal is to create optimal conditions for a smooth, safe, and productive academic environment upon the return of our students.
REVISED RESUMPTION STATUS AND RATIONALE
According to the memorandum signed by the Registrar, Dr. John U. David, FCA, the earlier scheduled resumption date of Tuesday, April 7, 2026, will no longer take effect.
The postponement has become necessary for the following critical reasons:
- Easter Festivities: To afford students, staff, and their families adequate and uninterrupted time to celebrate and observe the Easter holiday period in a relaxed atmosphere.
- Administrative Regularization: To finalise all pending internal administrative processes essential for the seamless operation of the upcoming semester.
- Infrastructure and Safety Readiness: To ensure that all campus facilities, hostels, lecture halls, laboratories, and security protocols are fully prepared and up to the highest standards before students return to campus.
DIRECTIVES TO ALL STUDENTS
In view of the above development, the University Management hereby issues the following clear directives to all undergraduate and postgraduate students:
- Remain at Home: All students are strongly advised to stay at their respective homes or places of residence and refrain from travelling to Makurdi or the University campus until an official new resumption date is announced.
- Official Communication Only: Students, parents, and the general public are urged to disregard any unofficial information circulating on social media platforms, blogs, or third-party sources. The new resumption date and other relevant details will be communicated exclusively through the University’s official website, verified internal memos, and approved university channels.
- Academic Preparedness: Students are encouraged to utilise this extended period productively for personal study, completion of any outstanding online registrations, and preparation for the new semester.
MANAGEMENT’S APPRECIATION AND ASSURANCE
The Management of Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi, sincerely appreciates the continued patience, understanding, and cooperation of all students and their families during this period of adjustment. We remain deeply committed to prioritising the welfare, safety, and academic success of every student — proudly known as Tarkalites.

FURTHER UPDATES
A specific new resumption date will be announced in due course once all pending administrative and infrastructural matters have been satisfactorily resolved. All stakeholders are therefore advised to regularly check the official University website and other verified channels for updates.
