Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos, has sanctioned 76 students for examination malpractice following approval by the Senate at its 102nd regular meeting. The meeting, chaired by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Moses Pyefa Galadima on behalf of Vice-Chancellor Professor Shadrach Gaya Best, enforced the university’s zero-tolerance policy on academic dishonesty.
The sanctions, recommended by the Examination Misconduct Committee after due process and in line with the Students’ Handbook, include:
- Rustication for one academic session and compulsory carryover of affected courses for offences such as possession of unauthorized materials (e.g., mobile phones, notes, or body inscriptions).
- Outright expulsion for severe cases like impersonation or smuggling of question-related materials.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Shadrach Gaya Best emphasized that these steps safeguard the integrity and value of PLASU degrees, upholding the institution’s core principles of integrity, discipline, and moral values.
In the same session, the Senate ratified final results for the 2024/2025 academic session, clearing final-year (400-level) undergraduates for graduation and NYSC mobilization, as well as approving postgraduate (Masters and PGD) results.
The university also highlighted ongoing digital transformation efforts led by the ICT Directorate, including improvements to the student portal for smoother registration, faster result processing, and reduced paper-based administration.
With the new semester already underway (as confirmed by faculty deans), PLASU reiterated its commitment to academic excellence, merit-based progression, and strict enforcement against malpractice to maintain its standing in Nigerian higher education. Students are reminded to comply fully with the Students’ Handbook to avoid severe penalties.
