Breaking news from Akwa Ibom State University: the date for the 16th Matriculation Ceremony has been moved. Initially planned for early 2026, the official induction for the 2025/2026 academic session’s new students will now occur on Friday, March 20, 2026. A formal announcement from the Registrar’s Office, signed by Dr. Ebi G. Eno-Ibanga, FINM, informed the public, parents, guardians, and the university community about the change.
The notice expressed apologies for any resulting issues, but it didn’t give specific reasons for the date change.
The Reason behind the Change: Academic Calendar Overload
The 16th Matriculation has been postponed because AKSU is swamped with “Combined Ceremonies” to clear up past sessions. They’re juggling the 6th, 7th, and 8th Convocations at the end of February, and then the 9th through 12th in April. The new matriculation date is in between these, likely to give the Registry and Academic Affairs a chance to focus on the upcoming convocation and make sure new students have finished all their required checks and payments.
Administrative Directives for Matriculating Students
To ensure a seamless transition to the new date, the Registrar’s office has reiterated several critical requirements for all freshmen across the Ikot Akpaden (Main Campus) and Obio Akpacampuses:
-
Payment of Matriculation Fees:Students are required to pay a fee (typically ₦5,700) via the university portal to cover the cost of academic gowns and the matriculation brochure.
-
Collection of Regalia: Academic gowns are to be collected from the respective Faculty Officers. Students must present their payment receipts and a valid school ID card or temporary clearance slip.
-
Mandatory Attendance:Attendance is compulsory. The university has warned that any student who fails to participate in the oath-taking and subsequently sign the Matriculation Register may forfeit their admission for the session.
A milestone event
The 16th Matriculation is a big deal! It’s not just a ceremony, but the official start of a student’s journey at Akwa Ibom State University. Students take an oath to follow the university’s rules and uphold good standards. This year is extra special because it’s the first time for students in the new programs the NUC approved, like Nursing, Pharmacy, Architecture, and Law, which have become super popular since the university expanded in late 2025.
