Lagos, Nigeria — The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) branch, has officially announced the suspension of its ongoing industrial action. Academic activities across the institution are scheduled to resume fully on Monday, October 12, 2026.
The resolution was reached during the ASUU-LASUED Congress held on Thursday, October 8, 2026, following comprehensive deliberations concerning the strike and recent high-level engagements with the Lagos State Government.
Key Breakthroughs and Government Approvals
In its official decision extract, the congress commended Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for approving critical staff welfare components, including:
-
The 40% Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA)
-
The 10% Earned Academic Allowance (EAA)
-
Professorial Allowances
This milestone marks a significant step forward in addressing the remuneration and overall welfare of academic staff within Lagos State-owned tertiary institutions.
Ongoing Negotiations and Outstanding Demands
While acknowledging the governor’s approval, the congress emphasized that several key matters remain under active discussion. Further negotiations with the Lagos State Government will focus on:
-
The full domestication of the 2025 Federal Government/ASUU Agreement, including the provision for salary-for-life for retired professors.
-
Continued dialogue regarding the proposed Lagos Factor Allowance.
-
Other internal and external welfare demands.
Additionally, the union resolved that deductions for the recapitalisation of NUPEMCO shares—originally approved on April 2, 2026—will commence with October 2026 salaries, strictly subject to the fulfillment of conditions governing the newly approved allowances.
Notice to Students and Staff
With the suspension of the industrial action, all students are advised to prepare for the resumption of lectures and academic routines on Monday, October 12, 2026.
Students should monitor official LASUED communication channels closely for immediate updates regarding lecture timetables, revised academic calendars, and examination schedules.
