FEDERAL GOVERNMENT APPROVE JAMB TAKEOVER OF HND ADMISSIONS STARTING 2026/2027 SESSION
ABUJA, NIGERIA— The Federal Government has officially approved the centralisation of Higher National Diploma (HND) admissions under the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), effective from the 2026/2027 academic session.
The directive was conveyed through a National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) circular dated September 9, 2026, following strategic deliberations involving the Federal Ministry of Education, JAMB, NBTE, and key polytechnic stakeholders.
Key Highlights of the Policy
Centralised Admission Process:All HND admissions across Nigerian polytechnics and monotechnics will now be routed exclusively through JAMB’s digital platform.
Eradication of Irregular Admissions: The policy directly targets compromised, unapproved, or illegal admissions, ensuring that all admitted candidates are properly documented to prevent future National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mobilisation bottlenecks.
Implementation Guidelines: NBTE has been tasked with drafting comprehensive admission criteria to be integrated into JAMB’s portal for seamless execution.
Part-Time ND Quota Cap: The Federal Government has placed a strict ceiling on National Diploma (ND) part-time enrollments, capping them at 50% of each institution’s approved full-time capacity.
An official statement outlining detailed operational modalities is scheduled for release by the Federal Ministry of Education next week. Prospective HND applicants and polytechnic authorities are advised to await further administrative instructions before initiating new admission processes.
