ASUU UNICROSS Suspends Industrial Action; Academic Activities to Resume
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) Branch, has officially suspended the industrial action it initiated on May 19, 2026. The decision paves the way for the immediate restoration of academic activities across all campuses.
The resolution was finalized during an emergency congress at the Calabar Campus, following significant progress made in resolving key labor disputes.
Breakthrough Following Government Intervention
The strike suspension comes after a series of high-level reconciliatory engagements driven by the UNICROSS Management and the Cross River State Government.
Executive Engagement: The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francisca Bassey, alongside ASUU leadership, held crucial closed-door discussions with the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu.
Student Advocacy: Prior to the union meeting, the Vice-Chancellor also led student representatives to meet with the Governor to highlight the impact of the academic disruption.
Government Assurances: ASUU confirmed that the strike was suspended based on concrete commitments and assurances delivered by the Governor to address the lecturers’ demands.
