The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) will tomorrow, May 11, 2026, hold its much-anticipated annual policy meeting on admissions, a crucial gathering that will determine the direction of admissions into Nigerian tertiary institutions for the 2026/2027 academic session. The meeting is expected to shape admission policies for universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education across the country.
According to JAMB, the policy meeting will take place at the Body of Benchers Auditorium in Jabi, Abuja, and will bring together major stakeholders in Nigeriaβs education sector, including vice-chancellors, rectors, provosts, registrars, admission officers, and heads of regulatory agencies such as the National Universities Commission (NUC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and National Commission for Colleges of Education.
One of the biggest expectations from the meeting is the announcement of the official minimum UTME cut-off marks for admission into tertiary institutions. These cut-off marks serve as the benchmark for universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education when considering candidates for admission. Many students and parents are eagerly awaiting the outcome because it will determine the admission chances of candidates who sat for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The meeting is also expected to address broader admission guidelines, including admission timelines, age requirements, CAPS admission procedures, and policies aimed at improving transparency and fairness in the admission process. Education stakeholders believe the decisions reached at the meeting will greatly influence the standard and competitiveness of tertiary education admissions in Nigeria.
Nigeriaβs Minister of Education, Maruf Olatunji Alausa, is expected to unveil new policy directions and provide guidance on the Federal Governmentβs plans for the education sector during the meeting. JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin said the gathering would formally set the tone for the 2026/2027 admission exercise while emphasizing strict compliance with admission regulations by institutions nationwide.
In addition to policy discussions, the event will feature the 6th edition of the National Tertiary Admissions Performance-Merit Awards (NATAP-M), aimed at encouraging institutions to follow admission rules and maintain high standards in the admission process.
