The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has started an indefinite industrial strike action beginning from Wednesday.
The strike was announced on Tuesday by the union’s leaders, Chairman Prof. Idou Keinde and Secretary Prof. Adesina Arikawe, following an emergency meeting.
Lecturers reported that the school only paid partial salaries to staff at both the Akoka and Idi-Araba campuses for the specified months.
This is because the university hasn’t paid the lecturers their full salaries for January and February. The union says they received “amputated salaries” and are now refusing to work until they get paid in full. The university’s spokesperson hasn’t responded to requests for comment.
