JUST IN: LAGOS STATE UNIVERSITY (LASU) MANAGEMENT DIRECTS STAFF TO RESUME WORK AS GOVERNMENT MEETS STAFF UNIONS’ DEMANDS
The Management of Lagos State University (LASU), at a Special Virtual Meeting held on Friday, 8th August 2025, deliberated on the outcome of the meeting between the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, the Joint Action Committee of LASU Staff Unions, the University Management, and other stakeholders.
Key Resolutions:
1️⃣ The meeting, held on Thursday, 7th August 2025, addressed the issue of 23 months’ arrears from the implementation of the 25% / 35% salary increase in the university.
2️⃣ While the 25% / 35% salary increase took effect in December 2024, the state government, on compassionate grounds, approved payment of 12 months out of the 23 months’ arrears.
3️⃣ Payment Plan:
9 months’ arrears: To be paid by the State Government in 3 monthly installments (August–October 2025)
3 months’ arrears: To be paid by the University Management (November 2025–January 2026)
Additional Notes from the Communiqué:
📌 The Deputy Governor will further discuss with the Governor on the unions’ request for a 20% salary increase promised to civil servants during the 2023 campaign.
📌 The unions agreed to convene a congress on Friday, 8th August 2025, to suspend the strike from Monday, 11th August 2025.
📌 All parties signed the Communiqué.
Directive:
The LASU Management has directed all staff to resume duty on Monday, 11th August 2025 and urged them to carry out their duties peacefully.
