JUST IN: FG REVIEWS CURRICULA FOR BASIC, SENIOR SECONDARY, AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION
The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Education, has announced the completion of a comprehensive review of curricula across basic, senior secondary, and technical education levels in Nigeria.
Speaking on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, the Minister of State for Education, Professor Sulaiman Said Ahmad, explained that the exercise was carried out in collaboration with stakeholders such as the NERDC, UBEC, NSSEC, NBTE, and other relevant departments of the ministry.
According to him, the review was aimed not just at streamlining subjects but also at enriching content to promote deeper learning. Under the revised structure:
📍Primary 1–3: 9–10 subjects
📍Primary 4–6: 10–12 subjects
📍Junior Secondary School: 12–14 subjects
📍Senior Secondary School: 8–9 subjects
📍Technical Schools: 9–11 subjects
Professor Ahmad noted that the reforms will reduce content overload, create more learning time, and ensure that education in Nigeria remains relevant, practical, and responsive to today’s global demands.
