LAGOS STATE UNIVERSITY (LASU) INTRODUCES ONLINE AUTOMATED DEFERMENT AND RESUMPTION OF STUDIES SYSTEM
In a move to enhance efficiency and eliminate delays in academic administration, the Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), the most digitally advanced state university in Nigeria has approved the commencement of the automation and e-processing of deferment and resumption of studies applications. The initiative, which takes effect from Monday, 18th August 2025, is designed to replace the manual system and resolve long-standing bottlenecks in the process.
According to Professor Oluwatoyin A. Enikuomehin, Director of the Directorate of ICT, the transition to a digital platform is part of LASU’s broader digitization drive aimed at improving service delivery timelines and minimizing errors. Under the old manual system, common issues included:
– Incorrect matching of matriculation numbers with students’ names.
– Misinterpretation of deferment requests (session instead of semester or vice versa).
– Inaccurate biodata capture.
– Delays in forwarding and receiving Senate decision extracts.
– Lack of feedback to students.
– Late advisories on cases requiring medical input.
The new application will ensure that once the Senate approves a deferment request, Deans of Faculties can immediately implement the changes, which will be reflected on the student’s academic profile in real-time.
Application Process for Full-Time Undergraduate Students:
1. Visit: https://lasu.edu.ng/deferment
2. Enter matriculation number and surname.
3. Click Apply.
4. Select the academic session and semester for deferment.
5. Indicate the reason for deferment.
6. Upload relevant documents if on medical grounds.
7. Click Submit.
8. Monitor progress through the Application Status feature.
Procedural steps for Heads of Departments (HoDs) and Deans will be communicated via email before close of work today.
The University management has directed that all stakeholders in the deferment/resumption chain adopt the new platform immediately, marking the complete abolishment of the manual process.
